Details
A winged dragon crouched over the letters of a name, wings up, tail curling round the last one. The name runs in bold capitals along a flat base bar, so it still reads from the far end of the table. It suits a seven-year-old deep in a dragon phase, and it suits a tabletop gamer turning thirty-five. Same design, different colour, very different party.
Behind the letters sits a square socket moulded into the base. Drop in a standard upright cake fountain, the cone or cylinder that UK shops sell as an ice fountain, and it stands straight while it burns, with the sparks going up just over the dragon's head. The fountain is not included and we do not sell it; party shops and the bigger supermarkets stock them. The socket takes the upright type only, never thin handheld sparklers. An adult should light it, follow the instructions printed on the firework itself, and stay with it until it has burnt out.
Each topper is 3D printed to order in our small studio in Spain, in PLA, a rigid plant-based plastic. It is about 15 cm (6 in) wide, and the height shifts slightly with the length of the name. There are fourteen colours, four of them rainbow blends that change shade as you walk past. It is a decoration rather than anything you eat, so lift it off before the cake is cut, rinse it and keep it.
- Type the name into the personalisation box and we print that exact spelling — the design sets it in capitals, so double-check it before ordering. Personalisation costs nothing.
- After a sculpted dragon with no name on it? That is our other dragon topper: same socket, more of a centrepiece.
The wings are printed standing proud of the base rather than flat against it, so a low kitchen light throws a dragon-shaped shadow across the icing. Set it towards the back of the cake and leave the front clear for candles.
Questions about this topper
Does the dragon topper come with an ice fountain?
No. This is the holder only and we do not sell fireworks. You need a standard upright cake fountain, sold in the UK as an ice fountain, from a party shop or supermarket. It slots into the socket behind the lettering. Thin handheld sparklers are the wrong shape and will not sit safely.
Can the dragon sit directly on the icing?
It can, though it is a decoration rather than food and it is not edible. PLA is a rigid plant-based plastic. The flat base bar rests on the icing like a candle holder and comes off before anyone gets a slice. If you would rather it never touched the cake, stand it on a small disc of baking paper.
What should I know before lighting the fountain over the dragon's head?
Treat it as the small firework it is. Set the cake well clear of curtains, balloons and low ceilings, keep children back, light it with a long lighter and follow the safety text on the fountain's own packaging. Never leave one burning unattended, and let everything cool before you lift the dragon off.
How do I make sure the name is spelled and capitalised the way I want?
Type the name into the personalisation box, and we print your exact spelling without correcting it — the lettering style is set by the design. Accents and hyphens are fine. Give the box one last read before you check out.
Will the dragon survive being washed and put away?
Yes. It is rigid PLA, not card, so it does not go soft, curl or tear. Wipe the icing off with warm soapy water, dry it and it goes back in the box for next year, or onto a bedroom shelf. Keep it out of hot cars and direct sun, which is the one thing PLA dislikes.
How far ahead of the party should I order this one?
We print to order: printing takes 1-3 working days and tracked delivery another 5-10 business days, so allow up to 14 days in total. Shipping to Germany is EUR 9.62 per order, free from EUR 70. Three weeks ahead is comfortable.
